saturday morning sleepy selfies, colorful alleys and a pretty good fake fire at julie darling donuts. it’s going to be a good day.
sometimes we’re late to meet up with friends because megan has a bottle of bubbles and we walk past the perfect spot to enjoy them. priorities.
a few shots from the weekend. we took long walks, we stayed in, we ate pancakes (twice), we ate hot dogs (also twice), we watched the colin firth pride and prejudice mini-series in its entirety, we kept the windows open, we let the sun shine in. it was a splendid weekend.
our weekend looked like this. a steady flow of good eats, good drinks, chilly but oh-so-sunny walks, good reads, cozy knits and more good drinks. hot toddies, you guys!!! who knew they were so delicious? lately we’ve been delighting in this cold, quiet season - hibernating in our little nook, filling our bellies, resting and reading, being still, and drinking so many mugs of hot tea. it’s been so nice and relaxing. stay warm, friends!
yesterday i was late for work. this was why. i hopped off the elevator, stepped outside, opened my umbrella, looked up and exclaimed, “oh my god!” i ran back inside, hopped back on the elevator, grabbed the camera and made it back outside and took about a bajillion photos of this rainbow. meanwhile the sky was turning yellow and orange, then pink then purple. it was a brilliant 10 minutes. and then it was just a monday. a sloppy, grey, rainy, slow-moving monday. nature, you fickle friend.
here everywhere. we’ve been spending the last few freezing days in our little nook, reading books, knitting, eating french onion soup and missing our cozy wood burning stove in mentone that would keep our mugs of tea warm (but not really missing the poor insulation and the mere 5 minutes of hot water for showers in the wee cabin) i can hardly believe it’s been almost a year since we moved here, yet at the same time it feels like we’ve lived here forever.
what a beautiful new year’s day we had here in chattanooga, blue blue skies and a warm sun to keep the chill away. kaylon had to go in to work so for lunch i grabbed two gyros from taziki’s, dropped one off for kaylon and took mine to the river to eat with the gulls. this little guy /\ kept me company the whole time and squawked my ear off.
Well, December, you’ve flown by once again. It’s my most favorite month and every year I vow to take it slow and savor it. It comes and goes at record speed nonetheless. Here’s a few things we loved about this December in ten random photos…
1. Mainx24, a 24-hour long celebration of Main Street and Chattanooga’s Southside. We froze, we ate delicious donuts, we rode electric bicycles in a creepy warehouse, we speed-watched a parade.
2. A trip to Mentone to watch the birds, to celebrate birthdays and marriages, to eat delicious food.
3. That beautiful full moon night and that tiny fake Christmas tree that made me smile every time I saw it from the street below.
4. Megan’s Christmas in Florida. Football game!!! Family!!! Presents!!!
5. Someone in the Kraft house likes the Biebs.
6. Hint: it’s not Megan.
7&8. Spending time with Mom means a crazy night of wine, puzzle-making, watching Pretty Woman and chatting until the wee hours.
9&10. Coming home to these goofballs was pretty great.
Cheers to an ever-swift December, to 2013 and to a new year! Here’s to glasses of bubbly and sweet midnight kisses beneath a fireworks-filled sky for all.
On a cold day we were in search of a porter. At Heaven & Ale we found it… after a delicious flight and some serious note taking (Kaylon’s notes say things like “hint of coffee” ”smooth” and “a little spicy” Megan’s notes say things like “yowza!” ”yummmm” and “blueberries?!?! yeah right.”) we eventually settled on Turtle Anarchy Smoked Porter. A good choice for a chilly Saturday afternoon.
we’ve been loving this weather. the crisp cool days with bright blue skies, red and yellow trees and those earlier sunrises peaking behind tall buildings.
we took a mini road trip to nashville with friends to see our poor jacksonville jaguars play the titans and they won!!! we’re good luck.
and then a rainy weekend in mentone to prep for a big thanksgiving. cleaning house, making pies (and thoroughly inspecting the pecans), watching football, and lots of knitting.
november, you’re swell.
cannot. stop. taking. pictures. of. the. trees.
a colorful road trip.
last weekend we started out under the orange, yellow and red leafed trees of chattanooga and ended up under the blue to orange to pink to purple skies of daytona beach for my mom’s wedding. it was perfectly relaxing… the weekend, the wedding, everything.
It was Oktoberfest at the market on Sunday. A beautiful, sunny day with technicolor dream trees and apples as far as the eye can see. There were pretzels and (tofu) brats and beers and spaetzle. We fell in love with those Volkswagen campers. And that poor dog had a little too much.
saturday night, we got a sneak peek at the new climbing gym that is opening practically right across the street from us, high point climbing and fitness. we’re really excited about this place! it’s huge! also i spy with my little eye some creepy red baby heads up there. hmmm…
it was another great weekend with this crew. and i love that there was a hot air balloon parked right smack in the middle of downtown… naturally.
