On a cold day we were in search of a porter. At Heaven & Ale we found it… after a delicious flight and some serious note taking (Kaylon’s notes say things like “hint of coffee” ”smooth” and “a little spicy” Megan’s notes say things like “yowza!” ”yummmm” and “blueberries?!?! yeah right.”) we eventually settled on Turtle Anarchy Smoked Porter. A good choice for a chilly Saturday afternoon.
we’ve been loving this weather. the crisp cool days with bright blue skies, red and yellow trees and those earlier sunrises peaking behind tall buildings.
we took a mini road trip to nashville with friends to see our poor jacksonville jaguars play the titans and they won!!! we’re good luck.
and then a rainy weekend in mentone to prep for a big thanksgiving. cleaning house, making pies (and thoroughly inspecting the pecans), watching football, and lots of knitting.
november, you’re swell.
cannot. stop. taking. pictures. of. the. trees.
a colorful road trip.
last weekend we started out under the orange, yellow and red leafed trees of chattanooga and ended up under the blue to orange to pink to purple skies of daytona beach for my mom’s wedding. it was perfectly relaxing… the weekend, the wedding, everything.
It was Oktoberfest at the market on Sunday. A beautiful, sunny day with technicolor dream trees and apples as far as the eye can see. There were pretzels and (tofu) brats and beers and spaetzle. We fell in love with those Volkswagen campers. And that poor dog had a little too much.
saturday night, we got a sneak peek at the new climbing gym that is opening practically right across the street from us, high point climbing and fitness. we’re really excited about this place! it’s huge! also i spy with my little eye some creepy red baby heads up there. hmmm…
it was another great weekend with this crew. and i love that there was a hot air balloon parked right smack in the middle of downtown… naturally.
we had no plans for the weekend. aren’t those the best kinds of weekends? we wandered around the city by foot and stopped here and there when we found something fun. we checked out a bluegrass festival, we watched paddlers and kayakers going up and down the river. we finally tried clumpy’s ice cream and it was delicious! we admired the quirky bits of the city: tents on the bridge and yarn bombed parking meters. we wandered from patio to patio for bites to eat because it was far too nice to be sitting inside. it was a wonderfully mellow weekend.
last saturday. leaves on the sidewalk and movies on buildings and four of us in center park on a blanket with wine. a good autumn night.
Yesterday we rode bikes over to Stone Cup behind Coolidge Park for breakfast and were so pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this madness: The World Canine Disc Championship. That flying shaggy dog made our weekend.
our favorites from the chattanooga zoo. that sweet little fox… oh man.
1. saturday morning donuts. the daylight old fashions are crazy good.
2. it’s hoodie weather ya’ll!
3. mural gawking on our bike ride around town.
4. weekend grilling with the neighbors. that guacamole will change your life.
5. sooo happy to have football back.
6. saturday afternoon at the zoo, kaylon made a friend.
7. love these bulbs at heaven and ale.
8. and, you know, just cute dogs in bars. no big deal.
Saturday morning walks around the city are the best. It’s quiet and cool and perfectly dewy and the sun peeks around the best corners making this already warm and inviting city even more so. Today’s agenda: brunch, football, gallery hop, cocktails as the sun goes down…
Enjoy your Saturday, friends!
Though we’ve still got a few more weeks til Autumn, this past weekend seemed like a final farewell to Summer. And what a farewell!
It started off on Friday night with a hazy pink sky and the last Nightfall concert of the year. We’ve been to almost every one of them, meeting new friends, hanging out with our neighbors, and seeing familiar faces on stage (hello, former coworkers / half of Rigoletto!). Now what will we do on Friday nights?
We stumbled out of bed on Saturday and drove down to Mentone for the rest of the weekend where there were hot dogs on the grill, buckets of homemade ice cream, a pinata in the trees and tons of family and friends gathered for a birthday party. We played a few painful games of horseshoes (we’re not very good… yet.) and finished off our little getaway with a canoe ride down the river. Oh, how we’ve wanted to go canoeing all Summer. We arrived home yesterday just in time to catch the tale end of our building’s weekly weekend cook out.
Relaxed on our patio with a glass of wine in hand we thought, what a great weekend, what a great Summer… festive, full of color, adventure and heat We’re now feeling ready for the chill, the change, the shorter days, the flavors and the quiet settling in of Autumn.
On Saturday we walked from one end of downtown to the other. This is what we saw. Later, we dropped off the pups and walked a few blocks over to catch a Lookouts game. We love this city. And we really love living right in the middle of it.
