sunday morning: grey skies, black berries, rainbow flowers
thanks for indulging us on our photo-heavy week of over-sharing. we’ll get back to our usual sporadic postings of downtown skylines, farmer’s market goodies and tales of patio-hopping posthaste.
summer so far: photo shoot with josh walker
on a very hot day a few weeks ago we trekked around town with our pal josh walker who is an awesome local photographer and a super fun guy to hang out with. we had a great time with him and we love our photos! thanks josh!!!
summer so far: soccer at the weird patch of grass in the middle of downtown
we have no idea what this patch of grass is for, but it’s perfectly manicured, gated and small enough for three-on-three soccer. so that’s what we used it for. a match between Team Bellies and those other guys. Team Bellies!!! i can’t wait to show future grandkids these photos.
summer so far: 4th of july
we started the day with a kiddie pool party on our patio and ended the day with flaming swords and holes in our t shirts. it was one of the best 4th’s ever. also, don’t give meg fireworks - she’ll try to burn your face off.
summer so far (in photos).
after a few weeks of neglecting the ol’ blog, this week we’re going to share a whole mess of summer photos… the fourth of july, a trip to mentone, our photoshoot with our friend josh and a few shots from an epic soccer game. i hope you’re ready for them.
saturday so far.
major yarn sale at genuine purl and a julie darling donut and no where to be because it’s raining and i’ve put my pajamas back on. so far so good.
unpopular opinion alert: summer is my least favorite season.
i get a slight case of seasonal affective disorder in the summer like most people get in the dead of winter. i look outside and see how nice and sunny and bright it is and i just want to get out there… to be in the sun… to soak it up. but once i step outside and it’s 95 degrees and the air is thick and sticky and i feel like i’m going to either melt or spontaneously combust (aside: do NOT google “human spontaneous combustion”. you’ve been warned.), i slump my shoulders in defeat, i give up and find an a/c unit to sit in front of. summer weather is a tease. it looks so nice, but feels so sweaty.
but summer is here. today. and i’ve got three months to make the best of it. to eat my weight in big juicy tomatoes. to reap the benefits of friends’ gardens - thankful for that basil sprout from a co-worker! to wake up with the sun and get outside early before it’s too unbearably hot. to know when to give up and just stay inside and knit even though that tease-y sun is beckoning. to go back to mentone and swim under that refreshing waterfall. okay so maybe summer isn’t so bad. happy solstice!
hot town, summer in the city // back of my neck gettin dirty and gritty // been down, isn’t it a pity? // doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city
What are you all up to this weekend? I’ve been on a big Jason Schwartzman kick lately - watching and rewatching Bored to Death and listening to a lot of Coconut Records. What gives? I don’t know, I just think he’s so cute and charming. I have a “type” that’s for sure - little guys with big noses, they are the best! ;)
Anyway… the weekend… we’re going to check out Young The Giant at Riverbend and dance our socks off. We’re going to sleep in and eat ice cream for breakfast. We’re going to gather our friends for a birthday brunch. We’re going to call our dads and tell them how great they are. We’re hopefully going to do a photo shoot with our friend Josh if the weather cooperates - we didn’t do engagement photos or many wedding photos so it’s about time we had some proper photos taken and Josh is really good.
Have a great weekend!
I love love love that I work exactly 1.1 miles from my home. I usually ride my bike but if the weather isn’t cooperating I just hop on the free shuttle. I’ve driven a car to work one time in the year that I’ve been there and that was only because it was a rental car that I was returning on my lunch break. That’s pretty awesome because I’m not a very good driver and just the thought of having to parallel park gives me hives.
The other thing I love about my commute is that it earns me free stuff. FREE STUFF! Like this Bike Chattanooga year membership that came in the mail this weekend. Woohoo! Everyday I log my work commute into Chattanooga’s Green Trips website and earn points for walking, biking, or using public transit (you can also earn points for carpooling and telecommuting). At the end of the month, I apply my points towards incentives and win free stuff like gift cards to local restaurants and shops, YMCA passes, Amazon gift certificates, Bike Chattanooga memberships… there are tons of incentives. It’s super easy to do, it takes me about 10 seconds. So if you live in or around Chattanooga and commute to work by any other means besides riding solo in your car, you should sign up for Green Trips and win free stuff too!
Tunes For A Lazy Sunday Angeline, Bombadil
Bombadil plays Riverbend tonight at 9pm. Check them out! We’ll be there!
psa: taco nooga on frazier has (in our humble opinion) the best guacamole in town - chunky, limey, salty. mmm… so good. go there!
i really hope this weekend is as good as the last because last weekend was so good. it was the kind of weekend that starts with a mad-dash home at 5 o’clock on friday - we wanted it to start as soon as possible. we shared a celebratory drink and took off to meet friends at nightfall - we’re so happy to have that free summer concert back in our lives.
saturday night, we bowled. terribly. but we scored enough tickets in the arcade for five eye patches and five temporary dinosaur tattoos which we wore proudly to the social to join their whiskey club. if you order all the whiskeys on their menu (not all in one night, mind you) you’re a member of the whiskey club and you get double pours for the price of single pours for the rest of your life! (or, you know, until they go out of business or something) we’re doing it.
sunday was the laziest of lazy mornings. then it was an afternoon of eating too many tacos, but still somehow having enough room in our bellies to eat italian ice while sitting in the sun watching people paddle board down the river.
monday was all about the usa pro cycling champ race. we rode the city bikes up and down town catching as much of the action as we could.
we finished the weekend off with a cook out at our place. we shared delicious food and drank delicious brews and crashed into bed by 8 o’clock.
cheers to the weekend!
friends and beer and soccer and beer.
we’ve been gathering friends to watch chattanooga football club games from the dry, cozy, window-filled upstairs of the chattanooga brewing company’s new digs. last weekend we were so happy to have jon and liz back in town from dc - look at cute liz! and aha! a picture of the newlyweds (their wedding here) with meg. what a wonderful group!
and kaylon, watching the game from the sidewalk, looking a bit concerned even though the team was looking pretty good.
a day in.
a little coffee with that dreamy sunrise. a little doggy back rub while binge-watching the americans. all day every day admiring these few thriving house plants. and to finish it off, yes, that’s an enormous sugar daddy kaylon’s got there - the key to his heart is candy.
for easter, i bought a pack of reese’s peanut butter eggs (kaylon’s favorite!) and hid them around the apartment. that was a fun 10 minutes!
we’re still loving this awesome spring weather, walking around hopping from patio to patio. (side note: one saturday morning while kaylon was working, i solo-breakfasted on rembrandt’s patio and witnessed two people order banana lattes. what the? banana lattes? is that a thing?)
the sunday market is back! hooray! i can’t wait for the all the technicolor dream tomatoes.
after the market, we walked over and checked out the new home of the chattanooga brewing company. it’s big! and it has a pretty awesome view of the mocs stadium. and that enormous pretzel was pretty tasty.
we finished off the weekend coming up with grand schemes of how to spend much of the summer in this river. we’re recruiting friends with boats. got a boat? want to hang out? we’re pretty fun.
