Mentone In The Spring
“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.” -Joseph Campbell
this was yesterday’s walk around. when the sun is shining, we roll out of bed, hair unkempt, sneaks thrown on, camera in hand and we take off to explore. here’s what we found…
windows open everywhere.
hey look, this guy now has company.
as spring splashes color between grey buildings, this city gets prettier and prettier…
places worth going Pickle Barrel on Market
Ah, Pickle Barrel… Though we love your cozy, friendly counter-bar, we cannot wait till it warms up enough for us to sip hefeweizens on your patio among the trees. It seems like the greatest “tree house” ever up there.
places worth going Cadence Coffee Co. on Patten Parkway
Good morning! It’s snowing right outside our window. Little flurries dancing by, twirling through the new buds that are peaking out on all the trees. Sometimes when the wind catches, it’s hard to tell the falling flowers from the snowflakes. Stay warm, Chattanoogans!
Even though it’s Thursday, we’ve decided to just go ahead and start our weekend. Because we’re Tuttles and that’s what we do! And also because we’re both off tomorrow.
Here’s how our weekend might play out…
Go back to Coolidge Park and hope this violinist is there again practicing in his cutoff shorts and bare-feet. Because last weekend, our behind the bushes, mini-concert from him was delightful. (See him? Behind the bushes? He’s delightful.)
Make friends with someone with a canoe. And launch.
Stand under the Bradford trees and pretend the falling flowers are confetti. And then jump up and down in celebration because IT’S THE WEEKEND!
And this. Oh yeah, naps in the park? This is definitely happening.
What are you doing this weekend?
The Tennessee Riverpark is the perfect place for wandering. The whole trail is thirteen miles long, but we made it just to this little bridge and turned around. One day we’ll take it all the way to the Chickamauga Dam - maybe on bikes and maybe with a stop at the Boathouse for oysters and a beer.
we lucked out with this sunshine on saturday, so we spent the afternoon outside soaking it up.
not pictured: the TONS of other people doing the exact same thing as us. we promise this town isn’t a ghost town, they just seemed to escape every shot.
This was yesterday’s walk around the neighborhood. Excuse us as we exclaim once again that “We can walk EVERYWHERE!” After a few years of 20 minute drives up and down the mountain, this aspect of city living hasn’t really sunk in yet. Our little car has been sitting pretty in the parking garage all weekend. She’s an old car and we like to think the covered parking garage is a nice little retirement community for her.
Yesterday it snowed a bit under grey skies, then the sun came out and it was a glorious day. We even found a bit of Spring tucked into a few city corners.
This weekend, we’re going to
-play more wiffle ball in the orchard
-bake our weekly loaf of bread
-will our tomatoes to ripen while we continue to feast on greens and beans
-make more items to stock the shop
-grab a sweater and a mug of tea and spend the cool evenings outside (only a week and a half left of Spring!)
What are you up to this weekend?
What a great wedding we attended in Jacksonville! Megan’s brother is in good hands with that one. We had such a good time and it totally flew by. We didn’t want to come home just yet. But when we did get back we were welcomed home with many a blooms around the yard. The mountain is getting so so green and it seems a different flower opens up every day. Man oh man, we just want to sit under that wisteria vine and inhale that sweet sweet scent all day. And apparently Kaylon wants to creep out in the apple blossoms all day. Spring has definitely sprung.
What’s blooming around your yard?
Enjoy your weekend!
